"Super Friends".

Karyn looked at the die and said "What?" But things faded out... and when the world came to focus again, they were in a stone hall. They were sitting by themselves around a table with eight orange chairs and a raised section in the middle with some antiquated computer equipment on it.

"It's..." said Jon. He waited until things settled down and he was able to think about his surroundings. "Karyn was sitting next to him, dressed in a skintight purple costume. Jon looked down and saw basically the same costume on himself. "It's a TV show. An old cartoon."

"I know," said Karyn. "We're wearing superhero costumes. Purple. And I think we're elves. Looks like you were right about being us in this world. Except that we're versions of the characters as us."

"Elves?" replied Jon. He felt his ears, which came to something of a point. "I see what you mean but I don't think we're elves. We're superheroes. Jan and Zayna. See, we both have letters on our chest." He looked down and gestured over at Karyn's chest. "I have a Z, you have a J."

"I think it's Zan and Jayna," said Karyn. "I remember Dad talking about this show. What made you pick it anyway?"

"Well, they were on that old Smallville episode and I thought it would be interesting to go with the source material. But I didn't know they were supposed to be elves. They weren't elves on Smallville and I never saw the cartoon. You know, I really should have put something newer on those dice. Three of those shows ended years before we were born."

"It could have been worse," said Karyn. "It could have been the Monkees. At least we can ''name'' some of the characters in Super Friends. And that's not all. What if we had switched sexes? In fact, I was expecting we'd switch sexes just because you didn't put that in the wish."

"I should be able to turn into snow and you can turn into animals or something. Can you do human?"

Karyn stood up and put her hands to her brow as if concentrating, like some telepaths on TV do. Nothing happened.

"We have to touch," said Jon/Zan. "On the show Zan touched his girlfriend and they said 'powers activate'."

"I think we're brother and sister," said Karyn. "We come from the same planet, and who has a girlfriend on a cartoon anyway, at least unless it's from Japan?" She sat down and put her hand on the table on top of Jon's. "Powers... activate!" [Editor's note: Fortunately, this works, since the show uses "wonder twin powers activate", but the comic book just used "power activate".

"That's it!" exclaimed Karyn. "I can use the power right now. It just came to me. You try too. Shape of... Jon!" A second later, Karyn was Jon. Fortunately, she didn't retain the hair and breasts; the wish must have been interpreted as only applying to her base form.

Jon said "Form of... a hailstorm!" In Jon's place was a column of swirling, rock-hard, ice stones, which pelted the chair and table.

Karyn, caught on the edge, yelled out in pain in Jon's voice as a half pound stone moving with the speed of a baseball crunched into her chin. "Watch it!" she yelled. "We'd better change back."

Once again, the two were normal, but Jayna/Karyn was rubbing her sore chin. "Okay, we know who we are, now what about the rest of the Super Friends? Only we remember who we are. You wished that nobody else does. So it's almost as if we really are in the Super Friends. I'd say we should go for a walk but I don't know if we're supposed to have secret identities. I can change to human but you'll just have to put on clothes and hope nobody notices the ears. She grabbed Jon's hand. "Shape of... Karyn!" What seemed to be her old self then sat there.

Jon abruptly turned around, feeling a paw scratching his back. "Hey, there's something behind me!" He pointed at a creature holding a brown paper bag: "It's a monkey! A blue monkey!" The monkey was wearing a yellow costume. "I think he's Beast Boy."

"Was Beast Boy in the Super Friends?" wondered Karyn.

"He's the right color," said Jon.

"No he's not," said Karyn. "Beast Boy is green, this one is blue." The monkey was holding out the bag, but didn't seem to be comprehending the conversation. "Oh, I get it. He brought you your clothes. So you can get changed."

Jon took the bag from the monkey and opened it. Inside were his clothes. It looked perfectly normal, except that when he opened up the wallet the driver's license read "John Fleming." "Hey, I'm still Jon," he said. "Check yours."

"I don't know if I have one," said Karyn. "I mean, I just changed into a human using powers. The clothes came from nowhere."

"Maybe you're just wearing what you were wearing last time you changed."

"True." She checked her driver's license and it said "Johanna Fleming". "Well, let's go. I want to see what kind of world the Super Friends lived in. After we find a bathroom for you to change in."

Jon said "Yeah" and they got up and headed for the exit. But before they left, a large screen on one of the walls came to life. The screen was shaped in 4 by 3 proportions like an old TV set, but it was so big it could only have been a modern TV set, The words "TROUBLE ALERT" came on it and the computer began to speak....
