"Well, Mom said something about a temporary vagina. Either anatomy is really weird now... which it isn't, at least nothing I can see... or there's some kind of magic spell which makes people get vaginas long enough to give birth." He held up the stone and said "And we know there's magic. Magic spells make perfect sense."
"Yes, but what about all the other babies being born?"
"I don't think that matters. Let's say we have 5000 people here. A pregnancy is nine months, that's 270 days, so there's a 1 out of 270 chance it's at the right day to be born. That's like 15 babies born during the day. It's a lot for a small hospital but nothing the town can't handle. By the way, what do we do about our babies?"
"What?" asked Karyn. "I don't think we're going to give birth before it's all over. It isn't instant, you know. It's hours of labor first and we haven't had that."
"Yeah, but a terrible thought occurred to me. Our babies may be inside us, but they're still people. We're at around nine months pregnant... maybe a little less since I'm guessing, but not a lot less. It's old enough there's no such thing as abortion. If we gave birth now they would survive--they're babies. We each have one baby inside us and they're going to die in the next few minutes when the wish ends unless we figure out something to do."
