The dice rolled across the floor, coming up as a 6.
"Dammit!" Karen cursed. The dice's motion kept it going, until it hit the foot of Jon's bed and flipped over onto a 3.
"What was three again?"
Karyn's question answered itself as a tiny, silvery feathers began to bloom from every pore of her body. Her arms became longer, thinner, as flaps of skin began to grow out from under them. Her fingers fused together until she only had two of them.
"Rrr.. guess we're gonna be... raaawk! Birds for a day." A black-tipped beak was forming over Jon's mouth, sucking his nose into it as it hardened. Bright red feathers sprouted from all over his body as his arms became stubbier versions of Karyns.
"You're a parrot, you're a parrot!" Karyn taunted. Her clothes reformed themselves to accomodate the long-feathered tail that was now poking from her backside.
"I don't know what you are, -rraawk!- but at least I'm a cool bird!" Jon's eyes, although remaining the same color, became large and rounded. His chest puffed out, becoming easily three times more muscular than it was before.
"Birds need strong chest muscles -rrrrwk- to fly." Jon's beak would click whenever he spoke. THere was a sickening pop as the joints of their legs turned the other ways. Finally, the change was complete. Jon strode up to his bookshelf and withdrew an encyclopdia.
Karyn was amazed at how functional her wings were. As an anthropomorphic bird, they were long and flat, but she could still use them to grasp things.
"You are a -raaaawk!- dammit, that's annoying! Anyways, the book says -rrwwak- that you're a california seagull."
"That's weird, we're nowhere near the ocean." she remarked and looked out the window. Jon noticed that, as a bird furry, she was very curvy. The silky white feathers covering her body made this fact very obvious. She still head rather large breasts underneath her shirt.
"So everyone in town is a bird of some sort, now." she turned back to Jon, her wings unfolding a bit.
"Wanna get to school?"
Jon considered it for a minute. He supposed they wouldn't have to catch the bus, either of them could fly.
"Yeah sure!" Both avians saddled up their backpack and hopped downstairs, out the door, and met with a cool breeze.
Karyn spread her wings first. With heavy wingbeats, she rose into the sky. Jon unfurled his own rainbow-tainted pinions, but remembered at the last second that he was afraid of heights. He didn't know how to fly, all he had to do was fall and get himself killed!
"Come on up, the air's fine!" Karyn called from above. She was giggling wildly, rejoicing in flight. Other anthropomorphic birds passing by gave her an odd look. It was like she had never flown before.
"I-I don't know how to fly."
"It's easy! Just spread your wings and do what comes naturally. I don't know how either, it's just instinct!"
Jon sighed and closed his eyes. He took a running start, hopped twice, and fluttered his arms wildly.
"There? See?"
He wasn't really getting much distance or alititude, but he was flying! Jon was really flying! He let himself go a little bit, not sure how he knew that if he just kept his wings still, he could glide.
"Come on, scaredy-bird!" Karyn was literally flying circles around him!
"No, no, I'm just going to stay... -rawwwwk- as close to the ground as I can."
Although he was now gliding along at a good speed, Jon remained no further than 10 feet off the ground.
"Alright, whatever. Just shake a tailfeather, or we'll be late!" Karyn zipped ahead of him. He called out to her and raced after.
