Jon and Karyn ended up being the first ones to get to class, other than the teacher, who was already doing paperwork at her desk. Mrs. Watson didn't look any different in this new reality than in the original one, but Jon and Karyn both knew that she was just as much a lesbian as the rest of the town's female population.
"Tim is my boyfriend," Jon said.
"Tim? You mean Tim Brant?"
"Yeah, that's right." He paused. "Did you find out who you're ..."
"Tiffany Sanders," Karyn said, already knowing what he was asking.
"No way. You're dating Tiffany?"
"Yeah," she said, with a smile. She knew these feelings were wrong (or at least wrong in the normal reality), but she just couldn't help being infatuated by Tiffany. She really was hot and she felt so lucky to be dating someone like her.
A moment later, Nadine Ferguson walked in, still holding hands with her girlfriend Tina Shepard. They briefly kissed, before Nadine told Tina that she'd see her later. Then Nadine headed to her desk. She gave Jon and Karyn an odd look, then sat down. Was it not normal for girls and boys to be close friends in this reality? Jon's two moms certainly didn't seem to have a problem with him being friends with Karyn. On the other hand, Nadine was the type of person to go looking for immoral behavior. Maybe she thought that Jon and Karyn were ... together? Regardless, the moment had passed and it seemed that Nadine only found them a bit odd, but not (in her eyes) immoral. Maybe they were safe. The last thing Jon wanted was to deal with the likes of Nadine Ferguson and her holier-than-thou attitude.
Speaking of which, Jon again wondered how Nadine's church justified gays in this new world. It was obvious that she still considered herself to be a Baptist. But how exactly did that work?
"You know how I feel about Nadine and her friends," Karyn said, breaking Jon out of his thoughts. "But I think Nadine and Tina make a cute couple."
Jon felt a pang of distaste in his mouth. Girls. Ugh. He knew that just that morning he loved girls, but now they were such a turnoff. Now, show him a couple of hunky guys and it would be a different story altogether.
It was a really different world now, but Jon (and Karyn) seemed to fitting in quite well, despite having memories of the previous reality getting in the way.
