Since their lockers were in different directions, Jon and Karyn split up. But they had first period together, so they wouldn't be apart for long.
On the way to his locker, Jon saw guys flirting with guys and girls flirting with girls. He knew he should have been weirded out by all of this, but it didn't even phase him. Yes, it was strange to see people, that he knew were supposed to be heterosexual, flirting with and kissing other people of the same sex, but despite that, all of this felt perfectly normal. On his way down the hall, Jon even found himself checking out some of the guys and liking what he saw.
He was so entranced by one guy's impressively large bulge in his pants that he accidentally bumped into someone. "Ooph," he uttered, before saying "Sorry." He turned to see who he bumped into only to be stunned. It was Nadine Ferguson, probably the biggest anti-gay activist in school. Jon remembered when Nadine caught Thea Woods (the only lesbian in school, in the normal reality) kissing another girl. Nadine threw every possible insult her Baptist faith allowed and even had to be stopped from physically hurting Thea. But that was the previous reality. In this new one, everyone was gay. And that included Nadine herself.
But what stunned Jon wasn't the fact that Nadine was there. Instead it was the fact that Nadine didn't seem any different than normal. Sure, she wasn't harping on all the gay relationships happening around her, but she was dressed exactly the same as before. Ultra-conservative and looking like a total prude, the only jewelry being a crucifix necklace. And in her hand was a Bible. Jon wasn't a consistent church-goer (mainly just holidays like Christmas and Easter and such), but he was pretty sure that the Baptist church condemned gays. As Nadine continued down the hall, Jon wondered if maybe more things had changed than he thought. Maybe in this new reality, the church supported gays, but condemned people who were straight. He briefly wondered how that would work before he spotted Nadine's friend and fellow Baptist Tina Shepard (looking just as conservative as usual) walk up to Nadine and kiss her. They lovingly embraced one another, then headed down the hall, holding hands.
If only the normal Nadine could see this. It'd drive her mad.
Jon turned away from the two lesbian Baptist girls and headed directly to his locker. Once there, he nearly jumped when someone put an arm around him and said "Hey, Jon. Why didn't you call me this morning?" It was a boy. Maybe Jon's boyfriend in this new reality? He turned to see who it was.
