"I just had a very strange conversation with Vickie," Karyn said to Jon.
"I just had one with Tim. He said something about a ceremony at a graveyard?"
"Well, yeah. Vickie said something about that too. But what was strange was what she said about you."
"What did she say about me?"
"She said you're dark."
"What does that mean?"
"I don't know."
"Maybe we should ask my sister. She probably knows."
Jon sought out his sister, with Karyn. And a few moments later, they found her.
"She said dark?" Zoe asked.
"Yeah. What's that mean?" Jon asked.
"I have no idea. It's probably slang."
"I thought you knew all this stuff."
"Sure. But this situation is different."
"True." Jon thought for a minute. "What do you think it means?"
"Well, since you mentioned something about a ceremony tonight, I'd say you're religiously dark."
"Okay, what does that mean?"
"You're probably into black magic, or something."
"Black magic? That's ridiculous."
"You have magic dice," Zoe pointed out.
"Well, yeah. But that's different. I had those before everyone became a Goth."
"How did you get those dice, anyway?"
Jon decided not to tell her about the stone. Knowing about the dice was enough.
"I just found them."
"Where?"
"They were just around. Look, Zoe. Can we get back to this 'dark' thing?"
"Fine." The thing was, Zoe already knew where the dice came from. They obviously were a result of one of Jon's wishes. She wanted Jon to tell her that. But instead, he lied to her. That kind of offended her. But, she supposed that she would do the same if their roles were reversed.
"I wouldn't worry about it, Jon," Zoe said. "After school, I'll help you out."
"You don't think I'm actually going to go there tonight. Do you?"
"Well, you have to. It's all part of the experience. Right?"
Jon supposed she was right. The effect of the die would only last until the next morning. So what's the harm in doing some ceremony?
The thing is, though, that because of the wish Zoe made, the effect of the die would last a lot longer than the next morning. It would last forever.
Jon, Karyn, and Zoe all went their separate ways, each going to a different class.
