Jon and Karyn watched as guys and girls entered the school. All of them were Goths. Of course, they were expecting this, but seeing it was weird. Sometimes, they saw someone that they didn't even recognize, until they came up to them and said hi. They may look different, but they still have the same voice.
A few minutes later, Jon saw his sister walking towards them. Zoe was a freshman. And juniors didn't usually interact with lower classmen. So seeing Zoe walking towards them was strange. She obviously wanted something.
"Hi, Jon."
"Zoe."
"So ... how do you like it?" Zoe asked.
"Huh? Like what?"
She bent down and whispered in his ear. "Being Goth."
"How do you know about that?"
"Well, I was sort of listening in on your conversation this morning."
"You were spying on us?"
"Don't be mad. I just thought I'd tell you in case you need help."
"Help? Help with what?" Jon asked.
"With fitting in with all the other Goths. You may look Goth, Jon. But you don't act like it."
Jon and Karyn agreed to let Zoe tag along with them, as much as they could. Without the stone, they couldn't just wish to have Zoe near them all the time. But what they didn't know was that Zoe had the stone in her possession, but she chose not to tell them. Not yet.
