"You look really different, Jon."
"Really? I don't feel all that different." He got up and looked at himself in the mirror. "Whoa! I do look different. I look like a freak! How come I feel fine about it?"
"It must be the effect of the dice. Or the stone."
Jon knew he shouldn't look like that, but he wasn't put off by it.
Out in the hallway, Jon's sister was eavesdropping through the door. After the die was rolled, Zoe saw a slight change in the environment around her. She still remembered how things used to be, though, because she was near enough to the ones who rolled the die (although on the other side of the door, she was only about ten feet away).
After a few minutes, she saw someone coming up the stairs, so she went back to her room.
There was knock on Jon's door.
"Come down for some breakfast before you go to school, Jon." It was his mom.
They grabbed their school bags and headed for the door.
"What about the stone?" Karyn asked.
"I'm gonna leave it here. I want to observe the effects of the die without making any changes. We can use it tomorrow after the effects of the die have worn off."
"Okay."
They left the bedroom and walked downstairs.
But, what they didn't see was Zoe leaving her bedroom and sneaking into Jon's bedroom.
