When Jon got home, the feeling that the stone really was real returned. Maybe it was the uneasiness he felt about the short meeting he had with Allison, maybe not. What did she mean by "the crow"? It all seemed like nonsense. But, in a way, it seemed familiar. The crow flies by tonight. That's what she had said.
Once he did all his homework (which wasn't really much), he called up Karyn on the phone.
"Hey, Jon. What's up?"
"Do you know anything about a crow?"
"Um. No, of course not, Jon." She sounded hesitant, like she was hiding something from him.
"Are you sure? Because Allison Bro ..."
"Allison? You met with Allison?"
"Well ... yeah. She seemed kind of out of it. But for all I know, she's probably always like that."
"Jon, stay away from her."
"Why?"
"She dangerous."
"Dangerous? She didn't seem dangerous to me. Karyn, what's wrong?"
"Nothing. I just want you to be safe, that's all."
"She said something about a crow flying ..."
"Please, Jon. I'm hanging up now. Let's not talk about this again." And she hung up. She didn't even say good-bye. That wasn't like Karyn at all. And why was she so upset about Allison? Was she really dangerous? Maybe a little weird, but dangerous?
What was going on here?
