"I wish we were home safely, and Mom doesn't notice anything unusual."
Jennifer blinked. She was no longer in a car with sunlight shining through the window. She was in a young girl's bedroom Posters showed some Disney Channel show. Books and schoolwork were those suitable for a 5th grader. There were two beds in the room.
And on one of the beds was sitting the other 10 year old girl. She started to talk to the other girl, when the other girl did the same. "We've gotta...." They both then chuckled and started again, Jennifer speaking first this time and Josephine stopping herself. "We've got to fix this, Josephine. It's weird calling you that and knowing what we do but it shouldn't matter anyway. Not when we can make wishes. I wish we'd become Jon again.
Nothing happened.
"I wish I knew why that didn't work." Nothing happened.
"It's not working!" she exclaimed.
"Wait a minute," replied Josephine. "How close do we have to be to get it to work?"
"I don't know," replied Jennifer. "We should try... maybe that's it." She walked towards the other girl and said "I wish I knew how close we have to be for it to work."
That wish worked the first time they tried it. Anyone making a wish had to be about four feet or less from both of them at the same time, and not separated by walls or anything like that. Well. that wasn't too bad, and they were that distance now anyway. Jennifer prepared to wish them back to Jon when the door opened.
Their mother stood there. "Josephine, what are you doing running off like that? Come back here! Don't make me drag you."
Huh? thought Jennifer. Wait a minute... the stone changed reality. When they teleported home they didn't teleport, it just put them there like they had gone there naturally. It set up a scenario where they had gone home and done whatever 10 year old girls do. It seemed like this scenario included Josephine running away from their mother to their shared room.
Their mother took Josephine's arm and hustled her away. Jennifer , after a few moments of panic, said "I wish..." but they were already too far apart for it to work.
