"I wish I was with Jon."
Even as an android, K.A.R.Y.N. could mess up wishes.
She appeared in Jon's bedroom alongside him. However, when a wisher wishes something to happen, it changes reality so that there was a reason it was like that.
So there was a reason why Karyn was suddenly miles away in Jon's room.
Unfortunately, the reason Karyn was so far away was that she had escaped ten minutes ago instead of now and travelled that distance in those ten minutes. And that meant that Eric and Keith had had ten minutes to explain the plan for disabling Karyn.
In other words, it didn't do Karyn any better to teleport to Jon than if she had just walked.
"Karyn?" said Jon. "I bet you've had a long, hard, day. Come here."
Karyn sat down beside Jon, then Jon tried to hug her, and reached for the manual off switch on her neck....
Now that Karyn had wished herself a completely human-appearing body, she was no longer as fast as before. It took a lot longer than .0000004 seconds to push Jon away.
"I wish you'd remember I'm your friend Karyn and that Eric and Keith transformed me. In fact, I wish everyone would remember me as the human Karyn."
"Whoa," said Jon. "Karyn? What happened?"
"I wish that you forgot about the stone because you hit your head, but that injury will be completely healed just about now. That happened," she added.
"I see. Eric and Keith are through, but you're still an android."
"Yeah."
"Say some contractions for me, okay, please?"
"What? Okay... isn't, ain't, don't... what's that about?"
"Androids on TV shows never talk in contractions. I wanted to see if you could do it."
Karyn tossed the stone over to Jon, who caught it. Suddenly Jon got a grin on his face. "Karyn, I want to try something. Let me try to program you."
"Huh?"
"Come on. I think it'd be fun. And if I really wanted to hurt you, I could use the stone to do anything I could do by reprogramming you, anyway."
Karyn couldn't escape the logic of that. Jon could "reprogram" anyone he wanted to by making a wish. If she agreed, she wasn't really making herself any more vulnerable than she was already. "Okay, Jon..."
"Karyn, execute command 3-4-2." Karyn felt faint, and then, suddenly, she wasn't. It seemed that no time had passed, but when she looked at the clock, it was fifteen minutes later. She felt different. Her systems checked out, but there was an alteration recorded.
"You must have reprogrammed me," said Karyn. "I don't remember any of it. So what did you do?"
"Well, let me demonstrate...."
