Except, Keith and Eric hadn't realized that someone else besides Jon knew about the stone: Karyn. And when Karyn caught up with Jon on his way to school, Jon claimed ignorance about it.
"Karyn, I really don't know what you're talking about."
"You're serious, aren't you? You really can't remember. Maybe someone took the stone and erased your memory. Or maybe ..."
"Karyn, I really don't know what this is all about, but school is starting in ten minutes. I'm already later than I usually am. Can we talk about this later?"
"Jon, this is important." She stopped and thought for a second. Jon knew about the stone the day before, she had asked him about it. Something must have happened since last night. "Jon, did you meet with anyone recently, I mean since last night?"
"Well, I visited Eric and Keith this morning. Why?"
"Oh, nothing," Karyn replied. She changed her direction and walked to the lab, instead.
"Karyn, where are you going?"
"I might be a little late," she said to Jon. And then to herself, "I have to fix a problem."
