Then suddenly there was something different. Did Jon's shadow move? He thought it did.
But Jon's shadow was the least of the changes. When he looked around himself he saw the trees were all covered in red and yellow leaves--it was autumn. No wonder his shadow moved--it was a different time of the year and the sun was in a different place.
Karyn looked around too. "Now that's a bad wish," she said. "The trees look nice, but I think we're really in trouble."
"Tell me about it," said Jon. "I wonder if it's last Thanksgiving, or next Thanksgiving."
"Well if it is last Thanksgiving, I remember where I was. I was at my house when you were at your aunt's. We had turkey, of course, and I took the wishbone...."
"Uh-oh," said Jon. "Don't tell me that after you got it you made a wish?"
"Yes, I did," said Karyn, "but it was more of a joke."
"Okay, it was a joke--but what did you wish for?"
"Well, er, I said...."
