Daydreaming in his bedroom, Jon noticed the wishing rock flash again. That must've been the tenth time today! He wondered why it kept doing that, so he picked up the rock and asked it.
"I wish I knew why the rock kept flashing like it does."
The rock flashed again.
Oh okay, Jon thought, it flashes when it grants a wish made at a wishing well. So the wishing wells are being powered by the rock, I didn't know that. Still seems like a lot of wishes are being made, perhaps I should keep track of them...
"I wish I knew how many wishing wells are being powered by the rock."
Just one? Okay then, that's simple enough.
"I wish that whenever someone's wish at the wishing well is granted, the exact wording of the wish will appear in writing in this notebook. I wish this includes every such wish already... wished."
The rock flashed, and a notepad appeared in Jon's hand. He lounged back on his bed, reading through the pages in the notebook. A couple of requests made him laugh, a couple even surprised him.
Suddenly, he dropped the book in shock. Immediately he reached for the phone and punched in Karyn's number.
"Hello? Karyn? It's about the... you know... yeah, that! You should get over here right away! We've got a situation. Okay, see you real soon."
Jon rechecked the notepad. Sure enough, the wish was there exactly as he'd read it the first time. It's amazing, because what seemed so natural to him wasn't before that wish was made. He was really surprised to learn he didn't always have...
