Meanwhile, I had found something very unusual in the middle of the jungle. In sharp contrast to the dirty environment was fifty feet of a clean metal floor like one could expect to find in the scifi realms. At the end stood a bank of futuristic computers surrounded by a glass wall.
I approached the computers, stepping onto the smooth metal surface, and examined the structure. While the glass seemed to have been made to protect the machinery, it wasn't serving its purpose very well. The left side of the wall was smashed, and it looked like some kind of bird had built a nest inside one of the computers.
Despite the obstruction, I could see a faint light pulsing from inside. I reached a hand through the hole and tried to grab the lit object. Feeling my fingers close around something, I pulled it out.
It was a card, like a credit card or something, with a data strip across the edge. I looked for a card reader, but found none. "Hmm," I muttered, sticking it into my pocket. Whatever it was, it didn't seem like the answer was here.
I suddenly heard an inhuman screech, and looked up to see an enormous hawk fly through the air. "I am the guardian!" it cried. "Leave my territory, human!"
