Jon siddenly turned. "Zoe..." he said.
The girl looked like the cat caught eating the canary. She was definitely up to something, and it wasn't just her new strength.
"What?" she said.
"You were listening. And you're just standing here and you don't think anything's the least bit funny about our conversation, so I know something is up. You used the stone."
"So what if I did?" asked Zoe. "The whole world is different, and there's nothing you can do about it."
"No it isn't," said Jon.
"What?"
"The whole world isn't different. The stone has a limited range. In a couple of hours I expect every place outside the range to be in a panic. Inside, too, if they see TV or anything else that comes from outside. I hope you'll have fun figuring out what to do once people notice that our house is at the exact center of all the transformations."
