Fortunately, that did work. Jon was back in his normal male body.
"I think something's wrong," explained Jon. "Never mind why I wished this, it didn't work right! I wished I could swap... and the first time I swapped, everyone thought I was normal. They didn't even know that I've swapped. But now, this stone..."
Jon suddenly felt an edge on the stone. "Wait a minute!" He walked over to the light and held it up. "The stone's chipped! Something happened to it! No wonder. It must have affected things somehow. I probably chipped it just before you got here. Then the last time I used it it got very hot..."
"Wait a minute," said Karyn. "You wished for this weird body thing, and then broke the stone, and the body thing stopped affecting memories?"
"Yeah, I don't know how. I didn't do any swapping after I broke the stone, so any memories should have stayed affected. Unless... the broken stone not only means wishes don't work right, it starts undoing things it already did? Is it undoing just memories, or effects too? Your family will remember that they got teleported...."
"What are you talking about, Jon?"
"Your family freaked out when they saw me. I wished they didn't come. They're at home. If the broken stone is undoing memory changes, they'll remember that I just zapped them home. I think we're in for trouble."
"It's your stone, Jon! There's no 'we'. If you hadn't used it for stealing bodies...."
