Kelly heard Jon's footsteps coming back down the stairs. Jon was coming back but she thought he was different! He had a happy grin on his face. "Let's play!" he said to Kelly.
Jon took the rock out of Kelly's hands. He still knew what it did, but he felt the same as Kelly did. "This rock is boring!" he said.
"It isn't even pink!" said Kelly.
Jon lay down on the floor, so he could better play with his sister, rather than standing up at an adult height. He looked at the rock and saw it glint in the light, then held it up to Kelly's nose. "Lookie! It really is pink!" he said. "Look at that light red color. Light red is pink! Isn't it neat?"
Kelly looked at the rock and said "It is pink! You made it pink!"
"Betty Boom-Boom can sit on it!" said Jon. "We can put it in the living room, and put Betty on it, and Betty and Barbie can sit and drink tea all day!"
Kelly got very happy that Jon was playing with her. Her brother was never like this before. At least, Kelly was happy until later. "I'm tired" she said. "I wanna pee-pee, and then I wanna sleep."
"No!" said Jon. "Kelly, I want to play with you some more! We can't do anything else."
"I wanna sleep" repeated Kelly. "Don't be so mean to me."
"No!" Jon certainly liked to say 'no', just as Kelly did at times. But then she had wished it that way.
Kelly gathered up her dolls and toys. Not because she really wanted to, but because she knew her parents would yell otherwise. Betty, Barbie, and the stone all fell to Kelly's hands. "I said I wanna sleep!" said Kelly. "Now let me sleep!"
"No! I want to play with you. I want to play with you all the time! All the time! Forever!"
"No you don't! You want to let me go pee-pee and beddy-bye!" Kelly only had a vague idea of why Jon was playing with her, but she thought maybe if she told him to do it he would.
"We're never going to stop playing, Kelly!"
Kelly ignored Jon and walked away. She had to have Mommy tuck her into bed.
Jon ran ahead of the girl and stood in her way. "Kelly, let's play! I want to play with you now!"
"Stop that!" she said. "I'm sorry I made you play! Go away! Go beddy-bye too!" She thought that if she just kept trying to order Jon away in as many different ways as she could, he would go away. "Jon, don't be like that!" And then she finally stumbled on what she had said before, but this time she said it when she had the stone in her hand. "I wish I never had a brother!"
