As the ground became more and more distant and vision became impossible, Jon made his wish. "I wish that some rocks would vanish in just the right place to make the tunnels near us collapse, but everyone and everything in them would be safely teleported to the surface.

Suddenly the ground rumbled. There was a tremendous earthquake and then the tunnel began to cave in on itself, which might have scared Jon more if he could see it coming down on him, which he couldn't in the darkness. Then everything was light again. Jon was on the surface and the ground was shaking, the shaking slowly starting to subside. He was standing besides Karyn, and strewn around him were several piles of strange clothes.

"Look at that," said Jon. "The same clothes the Delphites had. Hearts, spades, diamonds, and clovers."

"Clubs," said Karyn. "They're called clubs! I can't believe you don't know that!"

"Whatever," said Jon. "I saved us. Look at it... everything and everyone in there was teleported out. Us, the Delphites' clothes, everything except the Delphites themselves. They got crushed, because they're immune to magic."

"Very clever," said the man in the prince suit. He whipped his laser gun out and pointed it at Jon and Karyn.

"I suppose you're Jack," said Karyn. "Or the Jack, anyway."

"Again," he said, "very clever. This time I'm making sure there's a weapon trained on you. You're coming with me. Now, give me that stone."

"You can't shoot me," said Jon. "You might destroy the stone."

"I can shoot your girlfriend," said Jack.

"I wish..." said Jon.

Jack shot Karyn in the middle of the chest, leaving a smoking hole a foot wide. Her eyes closed and she fell down, seemingly dead.

"... I was a mile away from here."

Jon disappeared and reappeared elsewhere in the spaceport, beside a row of futuristic vending machines.

"I wish Karyn was here and alive and well." Karyn materialized in front of him. She was shaking, as one might expect from someone who's just had the experience of getting a hole blasted through her chest. The hole was still in her clothes, but revealed only unbroken skin underneath now that she had been wished back.

"I wish everyone here except us would forget about the rock," said Jon.

Karyn shuddered a bit. "I was dead!" she exclaimed.

"It takes at least a minute for the brain to die," said Jon, "so you weren't dead. Or was it five minutes? And the stone could probably bring back dead people anyway."

"You know," said Karyn, "I wonder how that Jack guy found out about the rock."

"Maybe they have hidden surveillance cameras around. I think we should just get out of here," said Jon.

"But what if they found out about it because they have magic of their own? Or what if they've invented a time machine? It might not be safe to just leave."

"Hmm," said Jon. He handed Karyn the rock. "Okay, you decide what to do!"

"Fine," said Karyn. "I wish...."
