A decade ago the Robot Rights Act had been passed, but the robot still didn't like being treated as a second-class citizen. "I WISH THAT THIS CITY WAS POPULATED COMPLETELY BY ROBOTS" it said.
Fortunately for the robot, the range of the stone was enough to cover the city. It looked around itself, expecting to see empty streets with just the occasional robot wandering by. Instead, everyone was still there, but their limbs moved oddly, some were metal, and the robot could sense the electrical fields coming from them. Some looked humanoid and could pass for human, at least when using any built-in gadgets. Some seemed more mechanical. Instead of the humans disappearing, everyone in the city had been transformed into a robot!
Sprouting jets from their feet, Jon and Karyn leapt forward to where the robot was, and punched it. Their fists, metal covered by a thin layer of some skinlike substance, clanged against its steel hide. The robot pointed its palm at them and emitted a sonic beam, and in reply they shot laser beams from their eyes, obliterating the weapon and burning a hole in the robot's chest, short-circuiting it.
Then Jon took the stone from the unconscious robot and said, "Now what do we do? I was sort of expecting to stay human today."
"Well, it's not today," said Karyn. "It's tomorrow's tomorrow's tomorrow's... y ou know."
"Whatever. Let me make a wish, okay? I wish...."
