'What do I do now?' Jon wondered.
He then noticed that his mother had bumped her head on the way down and was bleeding.
Fighting off panic, Jon picked up the phone and called 9-1-1.
A ladies voice answered the phone after the second ring. "9-1-1 Operator. State your emergency."
"It is my mother. She just fainted and hit her head as she fell. There is blood everywhere."
The 9-1-1 operator hit a button to connect her to EMT dispatch as she asked, "Is your mother breathing?"
Jon looked quickly as could see his mother's chest going up and down.
"Yes. She is." Jon said, feeling a bit better.
"Good. I show your address as," the 9-1-1 operator paused and then read the address off her computer screen. "Is that correct?"
"I have an Emergency Response Team on the way to your house. Don't worry Honey, your mother will be fine. If you have a blanket, you should cover her with it."
"I'll go get one." Jon said, setting down the phone rather than hanging up.
As Jon rushed into his bedroom, he saw his reflection in the mirror. He almost panic at seeing a strange girl in his room. Then it dawned upon him. 'Mom's wish. I look like a girl.'
Grabbing a blanket off the bed, he hurried back down to his mother.
"Now what?" He asked the 9-1-1 operator.
"You are doing fine, Honey. My name is Alice. What is your name?"
In spite of being so recently shown how girly he looked, Jon might have said, "Jon." if he hadn't been looking past his breasts. In a moment of clarity, he thought, 'The EMTs will be here soon. I look like a girl. The last thing I need to do is to confuse the issue.' Jon then remembered his mother mentioning that if he had been a girl, she would have named him Tiffany Anne.
So Jon said, "Tiffany Anne."
"That is a pretty name Tiffany." Alice, the 9-1-1 operator said. "You should be hearing the siren from the ERT soon."
"I hear them." Jon said.
"You should go let them in Tiffany. Don't hang up until the EMT tells you to, okay?"
"Okay." Jon said as he set the phone down and hurried to the front door. He opened the door and stepped out onto the front porch. He could hear but not see the ambulance. Then he saw it round the corner and pull in front of his house.
Jon led the EMTs into the house and they soon checked out his mother. "We need to take you mother to the hospital. Is there anyone you should call?"
"No. It is just mother and me." Jon said.
"We can give you a ride to the hospital in the ambulance." One of the EMTs offered.
Thinking clearly once more, Jon picked up his mother's purse and followed the EMTs out of the house.
The ride to the hospital was not long, but seemed to last forever. Once there, Jon's mother was admitted to the Emergency Room while Jon waited outside.
After far too long of a wait, a doctor came up to him, "Tiffany, I am Doctor Brown. About your mother. She
