"Hey, Jon," said Karyn. "Do you mind if I borrow the stone?"
Jon immediately said "No."
"Why?" she asked.
"Karyn, have you lost your mind? You do know we're talking about a powerful stone that has powers unknown to ..." Jon trailed off.
"Jon? Are you okay?"
"I just got the strangest sense of déjà vu. Like we've had this conversation before."
"About a magic stone? I don't think so. I didn't even know something like this existed until you showed it to me."
Jon agreed, but still ... he felt like this all happened already.
"Can't I just have it a little while?" Karyn asked.
At the back of his mind, Jon knew this wasn't a good idea. But despite Karyn's accidental wish, Jon trusted that she could safely use the stone. "Sure, go ahead. But I want it back by five o'clock."
"Thanks, Jon. I'll be totally responsible." Then she left the library with the stone.
Jon looked back down at the book he was reading, but then had a flash of a memory. Something about a dog? And a chew toy? It felt like a recent memory, but he couldn't quite remember when it took place.
Shaking his head, he went back to reading his book.
About 30 minutes later, Karyn finally got home. Her aunt and cousin were visiting for the weekend and her parents wanted to go out and eat. But only with her aunt. So that meant that Karyn was on babysitting duty.
After her parents and her aunt left for the restaurant, Karyn was left alone with her little sister Katie and her cousin Julie. They weren't the quietest kids and soon enough Karyn retreated to her bedroom for some peace and quiet, not really caring what kind of mischief the girls were up to.
She took out her homework and started doing it, all the while having a weird sort of déjà vu feeling, just like what Jon said at the library. She remembered doing the same math problems, even though she knew she hadn't gotten to that chapter yet. It was very weird.
About an hour later, Karyn pulled out the stone. It was time for a little break. While thinking for something to wish for, Katie and Julie bursted into the room, jumping up and down. "What's that pretty rock?!" they yelled.
"It's none of your business, you idiots," Karyn snapped at them.
"You're mean," Julie said, as Katie grabbed the stone from Karyn.
It was at this moment that Karyn realized what was coming next. It was that strange sense of déjà vu again, except this time she believed that it really had happened. And now it was happening again!
Katie was going to turn Karyn into a pig. She clearly knew that. But would there be enough time to stop it from happening this time around? Or would she be doomed to live her life out as a pig one more time?
