"Oh. What happened to me."
"Just lay still, Kimberly. You fell and hit your head. You shouldn't sit up for a couple of minutes."
'*Kimberly? I am not Kimberly I am *' Drawing a blank, unsure of most things.
"You took a nasty bump on your head, young lady."
'I'm a girl?'
"You can sit up now but take it easy."
Sitting up and looking down, it was obvious that she was a girl. 'Why would I think I wasn't a girl?' She thought to herself.
"Are you feeling okay Kimberly?"
'I am Kimberly' she thought to herself. Looking up she saw Mrs. Davis, the school nurse. "My head does hurt a little." She said. 'My voice sounds different.' "But it is getting better." She added.
"Several people are worried about you, young lady." Mrs. Davis said. "Your boyfriend is most worried."
'Boyfriend? I have a boyfriend?' She thought. She then remembered the picture of her and Mike Niedelmeyer at Homecoming. 'I have a boyfriend. And he is a hunk.'
"I think you should take it easy for the rest of the period. If your headache is gone by then you can go back to class. You were lucky you hit the back of your head, so, while you have a bump, it isn't obvious."
"Thank you Mrs. Davis." Kimberly said, still not feeling totally comfortable with who she was.
As Kimberly lay back down and tried to piece together her life, she had images of a boy named Jon but he faded as she remembered her life.
Just before the end of the period, Mrs. Davis asked, "Are you feeling okay now Kimberly?"
"Yes Ma'am, I am." Kimberly said, almost convinced that everything was right with her.
Mike was waiting for her when she left the nurse's station. "Are you sure you are okay, Kimberly?" Mike ask as they walked toward her next class, his arm holding her close.
"I am fine, Mike." Kimberly told him, "Let's take the middle hall." She added with a smile.
"It is a shame that the blow to your head didn't fix your lack of a sense of humor." Said Becky who walked next to the couple, worried about her friend.
'What is Jon up to?' Karyn wondered as she watched Jon acting just as if he really was a girl named Kimberly.
