After the big disaster the two Kare/yns didn't wish for anything big that night.
Next day, the clock rang and Karen (the one who was Jon) reached over to turn it off. Getting out of the bed, she briefly thought about Jon. He was a really good friend and it was a shame he wasn't around.
Her 'sister' Karyn was getting out of bed too. It felt strange having another Karyn around (even though that was the original Karyn, she thought of herself as Karyn too). "Good morning Karyn" she said. "How did you sleep?"
"Oh, pretty well, Karen. I wonder what it's going to be like going to school like this."
"Without Jon, you mean?"
"Yes, and... oh, I just realized something! The stone."
"It's right here, Karyn" said Karen.
"But how did we get it?"
"Oh" said Karen. "I see what you mean. Jon got the stone from his grandfather--"
"Yes," said Karyn, "and if Jon doesn't exist--"
"--someone else must think they got the stone" said Karen.
"And", said the original Karyn, continuing the other Karen's words, "whoever got the stone in the new reality must think that they lent it to us, or we stole it from them, or something. So when we get to school--"
"--there could be trouble" finished Karen. "So we'd better be prepared."
