"It'll be okay," Nadine assured Tina. She leaned over to give her a kiss, when suddenly, she heard a scream coming from her bedroom door. She turned and looked at her mother with wide eyes. "Mom!"
"Nadine, what in heaven's name are you doing?!" Nadine mother (Laura) yelled.
And then, in a flash, everything changed. The woman standing at Nadine's door was still Nadine's mother Laura, but now she wasn't an uptight ultra-conservative "Bible-thumper". She had still grown up in that type of family. And had married that type of man. But about a year after Nadine was born, she had to confess to her "then" husband that she was gay. They divorced shortly after and she was banned from his church. Good riddance, as far as she was concerned. If they couldn't accept the fact that she had been born a lesbian, then she didn't want anything to do with them either. And after the divorce, she was able to live her life the way she wanted to (no longer trying to be what her family expected her to be), which meant getting some tattoos and even some piercings. That's how she met Rachel, who was a tattoo artist.
Less than a year after she divorced her husband, she began dating Rachel. And shortly after that, she married Rachel. They were still married today.
Laura stood at Nadine's door and smiled. "Looks like someone was just let out of the closet, at least to her family."
"What's going on, love?" Rachel asked, walking up from behind Laura and embracing her, kissing her neck lovingly. But then she saw for herself, spotting their daughter Nadine in bed with another girl. Secretly, she had always hoped that Nadine was a lesbian and now, it seemed that her hopes had come true. Like mother, like daughter, she supposed.
"Let's give them some time alone," Laura said. "And maybe some time alone for ourselves too," she added with a smirk, before leaning in and kissing her wife on her lips.
After they were gone, Tina looked at Nadine. "I wish my parents could be so understanding. I think they'd kill me if they knew I was a lesbian. Definitely my mom."
"Your mom sounds like a bitch," Nadine said.
"Yeah, I guess she kind of is," Tina said, then wondered to herself how she could have ended up with someone like Nadine, who was so different than herself. She was so ... dyke-like. Short hair, tattoos, piercings, she even had a motorcycle, something her stepmother Rachel got her for her birthday. Tina used to hate her so much (even before Nadine revealed to her that she was a lesbian, she was far too rebellious and crude for Tina to even want to associate with her), but then after that day a week or so ago, she just couldn't help but love her. She still couldn't understand what had happened. The feelings just came out of nowhere.
"You know, fuck this," Nadine said. "Let's go out. Who cares if someone finds out you're dating me?"
"I do," Tina said. "Listen, Nadine. I know you're used to doing whatever you want and not caring what everyone thinks, but ... I just can't be like that. If my parents ever find out ..."
"Fine, whatever." Nadine sighed, then smiled. "Wanna go another round?"
Tina smiled, then shyly nodded. And then they had sex again ... while Laura and Rachel did the same in the master bedroom ... none of them even realizing that their lives had just drastically changed.
