Jon, of course, was unable to guess what change his "brother" Karyn had made, but then, Karyn couldn't guess the change Jon had made.
The first one to explain the change was Karyn. "I gave you six fingers on your left hand. You really didn't notice it? I guess it works... Okay, change go away!"
Jon suddenly remembered that he didn't, after all, have 11 fingers, and that he had been transformed. And he felt the extra finger, that he now knew was extra, disappear. Now it was time to explain to Karyn and undo the wish that made her into his twin brother.
"Just one thing," said Karyn, "remember the wish we were discussing before?"
Jon couldn't remember anything... but in a world where Karyn is Jon's brother, they probably had talked about different things.
"I decided I'd do it. I wish that Sarah McMillan loves me and she and I are dating each other for at least the next week."
The tell-tale flash, the tell-tale sensation of not being able to look ahead... The wish had worked. "No, Karyn!"
"What's wrong? We talked about..."
"No, we didn't! The wish I made on you..."
"What, we didn't really discuss this? You just wished I thought we discussed this?"
"Sort of. I wished you were my brother, and because you were a guy, you discussed it. Karyn, you have a girl's name because you're a girl, not my brother. There's just a little time left..." Jon glanced at his watch. "3... 2... 1... now!"
Karyn winced as she turned back to a girl and regained her memory. "HEY!"
"Have fun dating Sarah," said Jon. "I don't think you can break up with her before the week is up...."
