Karyn went into Jon's room and shut the door. She tried to think of what to wish for. She had been reading a book on gender studies and was thinking of all the unfair stereotypes about women and men. She laughed to herself, she knew her wish. "I wish all the stereotypes about men and women were true, but the men's stereotypes were about women, and vice versa. I wish things will go back to normal once Jon figures out what changed. I also wish that I would remember what it was like growing up in this new reality.
There was a flash, and new memories came flooding in to Karyn's brain. She remember growing up playing with toy trucks and action figures, and that her brother loved his dollies. Her mom worked as a mechanic, and her father stayed home and cooked and cleaned. She remembered complaining about having to wear a suit and tie to family weddings, while her little brother loved wearing his pretty dress. When she was a kid, if her hair got too long, her mother would say, "You better get a haircut, people will think you're a boy!" And if she ever whined about something, her mother would tell her to "woman up". Women loved sports, men loved shopping and gossiping with their guy pals.
Karyn looked around at Jon's room, the walls were now pink instead of blue. He had all the things a typical boy now liked. Make-up, lots of clothes. He seemed to prefer skirts and dresses to pants. Karyn laughed as she picked up a bra that was made for someone with a flat chest, as she now remembered a reality where she had never worn a bra, and no woman would ever think of wearing one, where meanwhile it was a right of passage for a boy to get his first bra. She laughed as she remembered that it was all right for women to be topless, but men couldn't, even though they didn't have breasts.
Karyn decided it was now time to check on Jon and see if he could figure out what had changed...
