"What do you mean 'we're about to find out'?" Jon whispered, frantic. "You're not going to show me to my sister like this, are you?!"
Karyn stopped for a moment, and Jon heard a familiar creaking sound. Zoe and her friends Athena and Zelda often hung out at a local historic cemetery; founded more than a century ago, the cemetery had long since fallen into disuse. Without proper maintenance, it was a wonder that the cemetery's ancient iron gates moved at all. The gates' creaking always seemed comically cliche to Jon and Karyn, but Zoe maintained that it added nicely to the atmosphere there--she said she liked the graveyard because it was like a goth version of a park.
Karyn spotted the three goth girls sitting in the shade of a tree a little ways into the cemetery, various papers and schoolbooks spread out around them. As Karyn released the gate and wandered over to the girls, the gate creaked shut behind her.
Athena, who had looked up when she heard the gate, addressed Karyn. "Hey Karyn. What brings you here? I haven't seen Jon lately, but I'm sure Zoe will help you track him down if he's missing." Zoe, however, didn't seem particularly interested by the idea, and seemed to be studiously ignoring Karyn. Zelda kept stealing glances of Karyn then looking back down at her work. Everyone present knew that Zelda was struggling with her sexuality--Athena had previously explained to Jon and Karyn--but she hadn't confided in anyone yet, and no one wanted to try to force her to confront the issue, preferring to let her work it out at her own pace.
"Actually, I'm pretty sure I know where Jon is," Karyn replied, grinning slightly, "But I wanted to talk to you about your midnight meetings."
A brief look of surprise passed over Athena's face at this, but she quickly recovered. Zoe, on the other hand, groaned, and stated, "I'm gonna kill Jon when I get my hands on him--he promised me he wouldn't tell anybody. It's none of your business if we get together--it's not like we're doing anything illegal..."
"That's not what I meant at all," replied Karyn, "I was just wondering if there was anything unusual about your meeting last night. Something new or different you were trying, perhaps?"
Zoe and Athena looked at each other. "What do you mean?" Athena inquired.
"Did Jon spout his usual lies about us doing drugs or something?" Zoe pressed the inquiry.
Karyn was about to reply, when Zelda gasped. "Karyn, what was that moving in your...uh...shirt just now?!?"
