"I wished that you would be my mother." It was a very simplified explanation of her wish. The full truth might have been too jarring for Jon.
"I told you not to lie to me, young lady," Jon said.
"But I'm not lying."
Jon snatched the stone out of her hand. "Usually I'd ground you for disobeying me, but taking the wishing stone away from you seems like punishment enough."
"But ..." Karyn said.
"No buts, young lady," Jon said. "Now, to make sure you keep to your punishment. I wish that you wouldn't be able to use the wishing stone for the next one month."
"One month!" Karyn said, shocked.
