"You should know that I'm the father," said Jon, rolling his eyes.
"But what about genetic defects," said Karyn. "Wouldn't fathering your own baby cause even more problems than incest?"
"Its an artificial womb, Karyn," said Jon. "Its not actually genetically mine at all. Genetically speaking, its like having a baby with another person. I'm just doing both jobs." Geeze, he thought. Karyn's sure acting stupid today. I wonder if that wish she says that she made did something to her by mistake.
"Seriously, Jon," said Karyn. "You're not supposed to be pregnant. I wished for you to be pregnant. In the old reality, guys didn't get artificial wombs or get themselves pregnant."
"So it changed the whole world?" Jon asked, incredulously. Karyn nodded. "And you're just going to change it all back?" Karyn nodded again. "But what if I don't want you to?"
Karyn was stunned. She had thought that Jon would want to go back to the real reality once he found out his 'life' was a lie. She knew that she would want to.
"I'm happy this way, Karyn," said Jon. "And a lot of guys who have this proceedur are also happy, even if they don't wind up having children. If I'm happy, then might it not be better if we left things this way, rather than risking making things worse?"
Karyn wondered about that. Could she risk her friend's happiness, as well as the happiness of others? And what about the babies that had resulted? Would she be 'killing' them by going back to the original reality? Jon was looking at her expectantly, so she knew that she would have to give him an aswer soon.
