They waited for the remainder of the half hour as they discussed the problem.
"I wonder if my sister Zoe knows anything about this," said Jon. "You know she's into all sorts of weird things... Goth, occult, you name it. She's got to have some source of information about magic. We might learn something."
"Is that a good idea?" asked Karyn. "Telling Zoe about the stone?"
"I'm not going to tell her," said Jon. "I'm just going to sneak into her room and look at her stuff."
"Ssh," said Karyn. "Don't say that out loud. What if she's listening?"
"She can't be listening," said Jon. "She doesn't speak Korean."
"Don't be ridiculous," said someone on the other side of the door. In Korean. Then she opened the door. A dark-haired Asian girl about a year younger than Jon, wearing all black, stood there.
"Zoe," said Jon, in English, "what were you doing there?"
Karyn was about to ask Jon what he was saying, when suddenly she realized she knew. She glanced at her watch and the half hour had just expired.
"Listening, of course."
"You don't speak Korean."
"Give me a break."
"Argh," said Jon. "The wish. If I know how to speak Korean, that probably means either my parents taught me, or they got me lessons. If that happened they probably did it to Zoe too. So Zoe speaks it too, and she heard everything."
"You're right I heard everything," said Zoe. "You've got a magic wishing stone. And don't you think Karyn looks prettier that way?"
"Well, um, can I see your occult books?" asked Jon.
"Sure you can," replied Zoe. "There's just one condition. Use the stone to...."
