"You have no idea what's different?" asked Karyn.
"None," said the boy.
He and the identical-looking boy next to him looked themselves over. "I don't see anything different," said the first Jon. "Jack?"
The other boy replied, "No, Jay, I can't figure it out! I was afraid she was going to give us breasts or make us wear dresses or something. Karyn, you're not trying to play a trick on us, are you? Going in there without doing anything, just so you can tell us something changed?"
"Of course not," said Karyn. "I'll tell you if you answer one thing."
"Sure, Karyn," said Jay.
"Which one of you is Jon?"
"Don't be silly, Karyn," said Jack. "You know that our middle names are both Jon, and we both use nicknames for 'Jon', so it's both of us. So what did you do?"
"Fair answer," said Karyn. "Well, the answer is that there are two of you now, but there was only one Jon before, and I made you twins!"
"You're telling me that Jay isn't real?" said Jack.
"Or that Jack isn't real?" said Jay. "We both have lives, I remember everything and I know Jack has to. So you created that all a minute ago?"
"Well, you're both real," said Karyn. "Here, try changing something yourself." She tossed the stone back at the two and they both leaped for it. Jay managed to get it.
"I don't know," said Jay.
"It's fine," replied Jack. "I trust you. But if you want to change Karyn only, feel free...."
"Just remember to put a loophole in your wish," said Karyn. "Five minutes, or the end of the day, or 'until I say 'change back'' or something like that."
"Gotcha," said Jay. He walked into the next room and closed the door to make his wish. A moment later he returned. Like Karyn before him, he couldn't resist laughing too, as he asked "Do you notice any change?"
