Ronald followed the girl that used to be Jon Madison back to his classroom. He watched his companion with thorough enjoyment as the short young woman hurried through the hall. While most of her figure was blocked by her massive cascade of hair at this angle, the way those bright brown curls bounced and swung was almost hypnotic in its own right. Definitely one of her most striking features.
When the pair arrived back in class, the teacher glanced up at them with some skepticism. "Well, you two were gone long," he remarked. "And you came back at exactly the same time."
Ronald saw his fellow student blush at the snickers that came from the other students at this implication, but she quickly regained her composure. "I'll have you know that the only reason for that was Ronald was helping me look for an item of serious cosmic importance!" she explained.
"Cosmic importance," repeated the teacher, his skepticism only deepening.
The girl's blush deepened. "Well, you know, subjectively speaking," she said.
The teacher frowned, but rather than send the two off to the principal's office or throw any other reprimand he simply sighed. It seemed almost as though the teacher had already had conversations like this with the new Jon often, and had long since grown weary of them. "That's... fine. Just resume your desks and try to catch up. Both of you, Ronald and Journey."
Ronald puzzled for a moment at the teacher's words, sure he had misheard him. Then the girl that used to be Jon was headed back to her seat, and Ronald realized that was her new name. Now there's an odd one, he thought. Which I suppose fits her.
"I know what you're thinking," the girl whispered, as Ronald followed her back to their desks. With practiced ease the girl parted her long hair to take a seat, pulling up the end to prevent it from dragging on the ground.
"Do you?" Ronald asked, taking his own seat. "Is that another artifact's doing?" he meant the remark as a joke, but as soon as he said it he realized that might not be entirely outside the realm of possibility now. The Madison family seemed to have embraced their history with weirdness and magic now, and if Journey could use some of that to read Ronald's mind that could be trouble.
Thankfully, Journey shook her head. "You have a look I see pretty often. No, I am not named after the band."
Ronald chuckled, realizing that if he had met Journey Madison under more normal circumstances, he might indeed have wondered that. "Alright, alright. No offense meant. I think it's a great name for you."
The long haired girl smiled brightly, her cheeks flushing again. "Thanks. You wouldn't expect this after so long stuck with such an unusual name, but I do too."
Ronald returned the smile, before letting his eyes drift over the rest of the class. Seems I've finished off my third candidate into quite the nice little package, he thought. Now what should I handle next....?
