Jon looked at Athena and frowned. "Zoe who?"
The Goth girl seemed to get even more worried. "It's just as bad as I thought. You don't even remember your own sister," she said, nervously touching a crystal pendant that hung from her neck.
"I don't have a sister."
"Yes, you do. At least, you did. I was just talking to her a few minutes ago. And then suddenly, she disappeared. Right in front of me. Do you have any idea how that could happen?"
Actually, I do, Jon thought. He didn't remember having a sister, but what Athena was describing could only have been caused by the wishing stone. And Jon knew that if someone didn't hear the wish, then their memories got changed to fit the new reality. Jon could very well have had a sister, in the previous reality. But now only the person who made the wish remembered her. Wait a minute, Jon thought. If only the person who made the wish remembers, then how does Athena remember?
Athena looked over at Karyn, suspiciously.
"What?" Karyn asked.
"You ... look different."
"Different?"
"You used to be a redhead. And your breasts were smaller."
"How could you know that?" Karyn asked, before realizing what she just said. "I mean ..."
"I know because I have this pendant," Athena said, gesturing towards the crystal pendant hanging from her neck. "It protects me from magical attack. Now, you better tell me what's going on here. You look different and Zoe's gone and I know you two have something to do with it. So, come on, tell me."
Jon really didn't want anyone else to know about the stone, but Athena had already put together most of the pieces. And it might be good to have someone else to help them look for the stone, before something even worse happened, like a mysterious disappearance of Karyn ... or even himself.
