The school day progressed at a crawl. Jon wouldn't be able to see Karyn until lunch, and he was too anxious to use the rock with her. On the way to lunch, he was practically running through the hall to get to the cafeteria.
Unfortunately, as he rounded a corner he failed to notice the "wet floor" sign, and promptly found his feet above his head, followed shortly by a great deal of pain in the cranium. He lay there a moment, trying to get his senses back. Picking himself up, he slinked off to lunch still dazed and a bit embarassed by the preceding events.
He grabbed a seat next to Karyn who had entered from the other end of the cafeteria (and hadn't seen his graceful trek through the hall).
"Alright, Jon," she said, "Let's see the rock."
"Oh, right," he replied, having briefly forgotten about the rock after that mild concussion. He dug through his pocket, feeling around for the stone. Not feeling it, he quickly searched his other pockets, then looked at Karyn.
"Uh... I think I dropped the rock..."
