Meanwhile, at Jon's school, Karyn waited for Jon to show up. He had been really looking forward to discussing his wishing plans with Karyn, so she tried to get there earlier than normal so that they could maybe use the stone before school started.
She looked at her watch. Where was he? Then, she spotted him.
"Jon? Jon, what is it? What's wrong?" Karyn asked, as Jon walked towards her.
"Karyn. I don't know how to explain this, but on my way to school I got this inrush of memories. Memories that weren't mine!"
"If they weren't yours, then whose were they?"
"I don't know, but it was a mother's memories."
"How do you know?" Karyn asked.
"I remember giving birth, Karyn. And breast-feeding. But that's not the worst part."
"It's not?"
"No. After it happened, I checked my backpack for the stone. It's gone! Someone must be using the stone, Karyn. We have to find it before something worse happens."
