Karyn couldn't stop running it over in her head. After a long, boring week camping with her mother, her best friend since preschool -- Cathy Khang -- had dropped a bombshell on her: a magic stone that grants any wish, and changes history so that anyone who didn't hear the wish believes nothing is different!
Karyn had immediately botched her chance with the stone, accidentally wishing for big boobs and long blonde hair, but she could tell Cathy wasn't as reserved about it as she had been letting on. After all, she had clearly made a couple wishes before, that one about the blue branch seemed like nothing to her!
She was really excited for tomorrow, and couldn't stop pacing around her room. So, when it suddenly changed from her light-green-painted tomboy abode to some oddly lit Mexican art display room, she noticed immediately. She began to feel extremely nauseous, so she began running to the bathroom, only to find that the rest of the entire house was different. It clearly belonged to a Latino family, and had father-and-son photographs to prove it. In a hallway mirror, Karyn noticed something even weirder: the entirety of her head and neck was a strange, foggy blue color...
Catherine had finally gotten Ryan to calm down. At first he was even more distraught that his sister had also had a slime monster transform her body and clothes into the opposite sex's, but eventually his weird emotional spike settled down and he felt more like himself again.
"If I didn't get that nasty thing off when I did... it could've changed my head too!" an exasperated Ryan said as he stared at the orb of slime glued to his wall. He was sitting on his bed, his room a generic nerd's haven of Star Trek movie posters and articles on every space program he could get information on. He was trying not to bring up how much these gross amoebas reminded him of the flying germs that attached themselves to Spock; his sister hated hearing about that stuff on a good day, and this was very much a bad day.
Catherine was barely hearing her brother, instead running through all the people she thought could be affected by her awful wish: her father, her little sister, and her best friend Marcus were her immediate concern. She wondered what was happening to them...
Zoe was very confused but also angry as hell. She had been in her room trying to enjoy the precious hours before her Mom came home when suddenly it became a complete dork cave. Then her face became some kind of gross sludge and she knew right then she was having another fucked up nightmare. But that's just it, she couldn't really wake up, even though she knew she was sleeping. Is this sleep paralysis? How long does this take? she wondered as her senses slowly faded back in.
The first thing she noticed was that she was noticing stuff from a wider angle than possible. It was like her whole body was a weird sensory receptor, and it struck her how amazingly interesting every moment was to her now. The second thing she noticed is that she was a amorphous blob stuck on a loser's wall, and that there were two Asian kids in the room but their bodies didn't match...
Wait... is that my body?! she tried to shout, but realized she was incapable of making noise. Some weirdo boy stole her body? Dream or not, she wasn't going to let that slide.
"Freaky fucking goop, go back to Dragon Quest you nasty-ass ball of puke!" Marcus shouted as he continued to kick the blue sludge in his hallway into the wall. He was extremely freaked that his admittedly doughy (but strong!) body had suddenly become some big-boobed white girl's. The body was dressed similar enough to his normal duds but everything about it was wrong. He remembered that one fighting game where a vampire guy turned all his enemies into women and figured that this was probably karma for getting turned on by that or something.
The blob finally split entirely down the center into two similar-sized chunks. He calmed down enough to remember that he definitely knew what caused all this. Earlier that day, his girl-friend-but-not-like-that Cathy had shown him an honest-to-God magic rock. For the first half of her explanation he thought she got hooked on something while he was visiting his family on break, but when she changed a branch bright blue in front of his eyes he knew she wasn't kidding.
He'd immediately embarrassed himself when he made a dumb accidental wish for a diamond tooth, but now it seemed like Cathy made a much bigger blunder all on her own. He really needed to call her and see what was going on.
Karyn was really disoriented. Her head had basically melted in front of her eyes right after her house warped into this Mexican boy's. She had glimpsed that her body was now possessed by a teenage boy about her age that she didn't recognize. Oh god, Cathy must have made a botched wish that's creating new body-snatcher people...? But what the hell am I? Whatever she was, she couldn't feel pain. Her former body was smashing her up good, but all she felt was a mild contact and a slight pinchin-
As Marcus' final kick split her new form in two, Karyn's perspective drastically shifted. Every thing she thought and saw seemed 'echoed' slightly, like listening to two radios playing the same station at different volumes. She tried communicating with this weird boy now that he seemed to have calmed down, but no actual sound occurred. HEY! (HEY!)
Karyn was confused as to why she 'heard' herself twice. She thought to test and see if every thing she 'said' echoed back.
H-HELLO? (LISTEN TO ME, IDIOT!)
Alright, she heard herself 'say' something entirely different that time, so it's not an echo...
Wait, who is this? Can you hear me? My name is Karyn!
What, MY name's Karyn!
The Karyns realized suddenly that when she split, 'she' became 'they'. This was too much for both of them, and they faded out of consciousness as they succumbed to the trauma of the split.
