Jon's older brother Steve parked his car across from the house. He turned around and looked at the three other people in his convertable: Allison (his girlfriend), Kyle (his best friend), and Michelle (Kyle's girlfriend). "It'll only take a minute. I'll be in and out before you know it. Then we can go."
"If you say so," Kyle said.
"Allison, you want to come in too? Maybe meet my mom?"
Allison wasn't really excited to meet anyone. But she decided to go in with him anyway. Kyle and Michelle stayed in the car.
Apparently, the stone only has a certain range of effect. Steve and his friends were outside of that range, so their memories didn't get changed along with everyone else's in the area.
Steve rang the doorbell and waited. "My mom's cool, you don't have to worry."
"I know already. I know about her, your brother, your sister. I know about all of them."
"You don't have to get so mad about it."
"Sorry. I just don't really want to be here."
"To tell you the truth, I don't really want to be here either. But we need money, and ... well ... this is the place to get it. Without it being illegal, I mean."
"Uh huh."
"What's taking so long? The car's in the driveway, so there's definitely someone here." He rang the doorbell again and knocked on the door. Eventually, someone opened the door.
"Steve! What are you doing here?" the woman asked excitedly.
"Mom? What are you wearing?" Steve asked.
"What I always wear when I go to work."
"But, you work for a law firm."
"No, I don't. Steve, you know I've always been a hooker."
"Your mom's a hooker?" Allison asked.
"No. No she's not. This is all a joke. That's all. A joke."
