Jane pocketed the stone as she finished picking up after Jon. She did her best to ignore the porn Jon left laying about. It was healthy thing to do, or so the books said, but was it too much to ask for him to clean up after himself?
Once his room was at least clean enough to walk into, she left the rest to him. The stone stayed in her pocket, warm to the touch and a little comforting. She almost forgot about it as she started to work on dinner for them.
She was just about finished with the prep work when Jon came back. "I'm sorry if I pushed you too hard honey."
"It's okay," Jon mumbled. He placed a piece of paper on the counter, glancing at it once before turning to head up to his room. "Call me when dinner is ready?"
She watched him go, and wondered what happened to the happy boy she raised. Teenage years weren't easy, and if he was going through something, she wanted to know. She looked at the counter where he left the paper. Jon wouldn't be down anytime soon, or at least not until she called. Same with her other children. And a good mother snooped only so she could help her children. She picked up the paper and read it without a second glance around her.
It was an award to some new shop in the mall. It offered a complete makeover in preparation for the prom, including clothing, fashion advice, and even a haircut. How did Jon get this? Jane didn't realize it was for girls clothing or it was the result of her previous wish. All she could think about was that maybe Jon was interested in going to prom, but just worried about the money.
He didn't have a job, and he probably didn't have a date either if he was worried about everything else. "I wish Jon would go along with whatever they say, and then maybe Karen will go with him to prom." She didn't know if his best friend had a date or not, but Jon certainly could do a lot worse.
