"I wish that I could figure out what Amber and I could do so she'd like me as much as the other children do."

Jon was a bit disappointed that he didn't have a brilliant idea come to him. 'I wonder if the magic stone has run out of juice?' He thought to himself.

Shrugging his shoulders, he put the stone back in his secret place and headed off to school.

Right away he noticed Karyn heading off to school. They had been friends for most of their lives. Recently he and Karyn had started to grow apart. That trend had really increased since Karyn had made her wish and found a new popularity.

His mother had also noticed that the two long time friends were drifting apart and hoped that it would change. She was pleased to see that her son and Karyn were walking and talking together.

"Karyn, what's new?" Jon asked as he walked up next to her.

"Not much. I spent the weekend with my cousins. I swear little girls are more interested in nail polish and their hair than is Sarah McMillan."

"Karyn!" Jon exclaimed, giving his friend a hug. "You are a genius!"

Karyn looked at Jon. "I am?" She asked.

"Yes. I started baby sitting for Mrs. Robertson and I wanted some way to connect with Amber, her eldest. You just gave it to me."

Neither Karyn nor Jon noticed that Jon's hair had grown nearly an inch longer by the time they reached the school. As the day progressed, Jon's hair continued to grown longer and changed from coarser hair common with guys to finer, silkier hair that girls just love. By the time Jon reached Mrs. Robertson's house, his hair had grown over a foot longer and fell over his shoulders to below his shoulder blades.

That night, after putting the other children to bed, Jon showed Amber how to put her hair into a French Braid by first doing his and then her hair.

That task done, Jon tucked Amber into bed and then headed out to the dining room table to do his home work. Before starting his homework, Jon finished cleaning up the kitchen and picked up after the children. 'Must be a bit like Mom cleaning up after me.' Jon thought. He then made a promise to try to be more helpful around the house for his mother.

It took Jon less than an hour to finish his homework. Once he finished signing his homework with his 'flowery' J.J., he put up his books.

Noticing that he had forgotten to bring anything to read and not seeing anything on TV that interested him, Jon picked out one of the paperback books that were on a book shelve in 'his' room. 'Not my first choice.' He thought to himself as he looked at the Romance Novel he had picked up. Not seeing anything better to read, he decided to change into some pajama's and read in bed.

Before starting to baby sit for Mrs. Robertson, Jon had just slept in his jockey shorts. He had decided early that sleeping in jockey shorts was asking for trouble. In one of his drawers, he found an oversized sports jersey that he decided would do just fine. The jersey came about half way down his thigh and was bulky and warm.

Jon read a bit over half of the book before setting it aside, checking on the children one more time, and then turning off the light and going to sleep.

When Mrs. Robertson returned home, a bit late that night, she almost felt sorry for waking J.J., but knew that J.J. needed to get home. The next day, she offered J.J. a box filled with Romance novels that she had read and J.J. accepted.

Things were going well enough. J.J.'s mom had noticed the change in her son. However; since it seemed to be only for the good, she had accepted it. The only down side of the whole affair was that J.J. and Karyn still seemed to be drifting apart.

It was late in J.J.'s third week of baby sitting for Mrs. Robertson that J.J. brought out the magic stone one night before going over the Robertson's. He was worried about Karyn as she was hanging out with some of the 'bad boys' in school; the type who used girls for their fun and then discarded them once they were finished with them. J.J. hoped that Karyn would not be mad about the wish, but made it anyway.

"I wish Karyn knew what Clyde and his friends want from her." J.J. then set the magic stone upon his book case and left for the Robertson's.

Later that night, Jane spoke for about a half hour with her best friend, Kathy. Jane and Kathy had grown up as neighbors and developed a friendship that had only grown stronger over time. The two girls had typically been the same size and spent nearly as much time at each others house as they did at there own. They had shared every detail of their lives and had often double dated.

Although after graduating college they had moved to different towns, they had remained in close contact with twice week phone calls. Jane had been Kathy's Bride's Maid, while Kathy had been Jane's Matron of Honor.

Jane tried hard not to envy her friend when Kathy mentioned how her daughter, Miranda, was going to the Prom and that Kathy she and her daughter were going out to pick up Miranda's prom gown the up coming weekend.

After hanging up the phone, Jane decided that it was too early to go to sleep and that there was nothing on TV. She knew that J.J. had some Romance Novels in his room and decided to read one of those.

As she leaned against the book case to bend over to read the titles, Jane's hand landed on J.J.'s magic stone. But Jane's mind was not on the stone or really on picking a book. Instead she (like most mothers) was worrying about her child.

She voiced her concern out loud saying "I wish ."
