"Nothing," said Mr. Carlyle.
"Oh," said Jon. He wondered if they were thinking it would have the reverse effect on women. Of course, even if it didn't, Jon could wish that it did.
Jon walked out, only to be stopped by another person. "Excuse me..." It was a policeman! Jeff was right beside him--in handcuffs. But why was he there? What had Jeff done?
"I need to get home," said Jon.
"I don't think I've made it clear," said the policeman. "You're under arrest."
"I'm under arrest?" said Jon. "What for?"
"For assault. On a fellow student named Alan."
"What?"
"You and Jeff here threw a boy named Alan into the magic shower, against his will. That's assault. And the magic shower is permanent. Permanently removing someone's sex organs is more than just a schoolyard prank. It's a serious injury, which makes this a serious crime. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law...."
"I was wondering which jail they were going to send us to," said Jeff.
"It didn't matter," said Jon, looking around. "This is just a holding cell at the police station. They don't have to decide if we get put in the men's or women's prison until they put us in the regular prison instead of here."
"But how can we get out?" asked Jeff.
"How can we get out? This is a jail. You can't just resist arrest or break out of jail. We'd better hope the trial finds us innocent."
"Yeah," said Jeff, "but we're not innocent. Just because Alan was making fun of us doesn't give us the right to do something this big to him. It's like burning down someone's house because he stepped on your foot."
"I'm sure something will get us out of here," said Jon.
"What do you mean?"
Jon reached into his pocket, to touch the stone, which the police fortunately didn't take. "I wish that nobody else around here will notice any wishes I make tonight, including this one."
Then he prepared to make a regular wish. Now what could he do to those police and this jail....?
