"You know, Joseph, I'm pretty sure this so-called party isn't going to be a lesbian-style love fest," Jon confided to Joseph.

"Why? What else could it be?" Joseph asked naively.

"I think it's a hoax. Lydia has done the same thing to several other people. She gushes all over them, invites them to a party, makes them spend hours getting ready, and then either she's not home or she's there with a few of her friends and they laugh when she turns the person away. Once or twice she and her friends hid in the bushes and turned the garden hose on the person."

"How can you know that for sure?" demanded Joseph, who obviously enjoyed just thinking about the party, at least as he fantasized it.

"It's just her usual pattern, that's all," Jon explained. "Word about it doesn't get around as much as you'd think, because people are embarrassed to admit they've been fooled."

"Well, I still wanna try it, just in case you're wrong," Joseph decided. "Why don't you come along, though?"

"Why? So Lydia can make a fool of me as well?" Jon replied with some hostility. He had no desire to become a victim of Lydia's pranks and what's more, Joseph was practically calling him a liar.

"No, so that if Lydia's party does turn out to be a prank, the two or us can get back at her somehow," Joseph explained.

Now that, Jon decided, was a worthy objective.
