Stephanie, one of Karyn's friends, stopped Jon on his way to Math class.
"Oh Jon, do you have a moment?" she asked.
"Sure, what's up?" Jon replied.
"Well, I'm early this month. Do you have a couple of tampons I could borrow?"
"Why would I... oh," Jon stammered quietly. Of course, his newly feminine lower half would need tampons every month, just like any head-to-foot girl.
Jon checked all his pockets just in case the stone had prepared him for such an eventuality, but there was nothing. In fact, Jon discovered, he had almost no pockets! There were none in his shirt, none on the rear of his jeans, and only two small ones in front, mostly for show. The stone was in his right pocket and he had nothing in the left.
"No, sorry," Jon had to tell Stephanie.
"Oh, maybe I should be the one to apologize," Stephanie replied. "I should have noticed you didn't have your purse. That means you wouldn't have any tampons."
Purse?... Purse?... What is this purse of which you speak, thought Jon, but then he realized Stephanie must be right. If his new body shape forced him to wear girl's pants, and if girl's pants had few if any pockets, then he obviously needed a bag of some kind to carry his wallet, his keys, his comb, and other guy stuff.
"Oh yeah, that's right, my purse! I left it in my locker this morning," Jon improvised. "C'mon, it's just around the corner."
Standing in front of his locker, Jon excused himself to clear his throat, held the stone, and whispered, "I wish there was a purse in my locker, not a feminine one, more of a man's bag, black leather I suppose, something I can carry from my shoulder, and that it contained my wallet, my keys, and the other stuff I usually keep in my pockets, plus some tampon's in Stephanie's usual brand and size."
"Yeah, here it is," Jon announced after opening his locker and spying a black leather should beg. Then he tried to remove the bag and found it wouldn't budge.
"Ahem!" Jon coughed in his pipsqueak girlish voice, then he turned away and whispered, "Very funny. When I wished for a purse in my locker, I meant a purse that was temporarily in there, but that I could remove and use in the normal way, such as taking things in an out."
With that cleared up, Jon removed his new purse, opened it, and let Stephanie look inside. "Here, will these do?" he asked.
"Oh yes, those tampons are perfect! Hmm. Are you really going to need all those condoms? Do you mind if I take just a few?" Stephanie remarked.
"Uh, sure, go ahead," Jon agreed vaguely. It certainly wasn't his custom to walk around with condoms in his pockets, and especially not ten or twelve at a time. Why had the stone put them there?
Jon had another question, too. "Uh, Stephanie, I hope you don't think this is strange but, uh, which washroom do you think I should use and, uh, is there anything special I need to know?"
