"... that Jon and I could have an amazing adventure. Something with action, excitement, romance.. you know, all that good stuff!"
Jon blinked worriedly, and then there was a flash.
When their vision cleared, they were standing on a busy street in what could only be Tokyo, Japan. Karyn spent a minute looking around in wide-eyed wonderment, before remembering what she'd done to Jon.
"I wish Jon could control his own actions again." She said, and Jon collapsed to the ground, panting.
"I wish you'd warn me before you do things like that..." he muttered under his breath.
"Wish denied!" she said with a grin. "Besides, you had it coming. Now get up, we have an adventure to undertake!"
Jon rose to his feet, brushing the dirt from his clothes. Oddly, no one seemed to notice that the two of them were foreigners that appeared out of nowhere. "All right... the question is, where in the heck do we find this adventure?"
Karyn shot him a sideways glance. "You don't find adventure, stupid, it finds you! Now let's start walking and hope it finds us soon!"
After an hour exploring the city, they came upon a darkened neighborhood. Slowing their pace a little, they kept their eyes open for trouble. Suddenly, a voice rose behind them:
"You MUST be the people I'm looking for..."
Jon and Karyn both gave a start and whirled to face the speaker. To their amazement, there was no one within 10 blocks. They gave each other very confused looks before the voice rose up again.
"No! Down here!" the voice sounded rather annoyed.
Drawing their eyes down to their feet, they saw a small, grey cat. "Yeah, here I am. Sheesh, you'd think you'd never been spoken to by an animal before..."
The two of them knelt down in order to better communicate with the animal. "Sorry about any disrespect, sir." Karyn managed, "And pardon me for sounding ignorant, but why exactly would you be looking for us?"
The cat drew itself up, as if trying to make itself seem more important. "Because I am Merton, the seeker, and you are the chosen ones!"
