Jon's mother (Jane Gibson) checked her watch as she sped back into town. She told Jon that she was getting groceries, but the store she went to didn't have what she needed and she had to go to one of the outskirt stores to get it.
She sped up a little more. She didn't want her kids to think something was wrong. True, Zoe probably wouldn't care and would see this as an opportunity to sneak out with her Goth friends, but Jon and Mikey would care. She glanced over at her cell phone. Should she give them a call and tell them she was running a little late? Nah. She was almost home.
About seven minutes later, she finally arrived at her house. But something seemed ... out of place. It was definitely her house, but it looked like someone else was living there. She shook her head, thinking that she was just tired after a long day at the office.
She picked up the groceries from the car and walked up to the front door. Her house key worked just fine and she walked inside.
Oddly, none of the lights were on. She assumed that at least Jon and Mikey were home by now, but no one seemed to be there. She took the groceries to the kitchen, then came back out to the living room and turned on some of the lights. And that's when she got quite a shock. All of her furniture was different! Even the paintings on the wall were changed. But ... this was her house. Her house key worked. Who could have done all of this?
As her mind reeled, she suddenly became aware of a sound coming from upstairs. Maybe someone was here after all. She walked up the stairs, hoping to get some answers to what happened to their furniture and belongings.
