"Fourth, I'm worried about something. The way you did the wish."
"What wish?" replied Karyn.
"The original picture wish. You wished the picture was an accurate picture of me taken a week ago. Which means that every time you use the picture, not only do you change me so I'm like this now, you change me so I was like this last week too."
"You know wishes work in funny ways," said Karyn.
"Yeah. Maybe I was like this last week but for just a second. Then I changed back and didn't change again until now. Or maybe it only did the week thing once, the first time you showed me the photo."
"Or maybe not," said Karyn.
"Right, that's what's worrying me. I could have been like this for a week, or longer. Even if it's just a week, I must have been coming to school like this and a whole lot of people would see me. I don't think I'd be able to hide this change for a week, so everyone knows."
"What are the odds of you running into someone here who you know from school?"
"I just met Emily today at random, remember? The odds are no worse than that." Jon began to change clothes. "Do you mind?" he said. The girls let him change in private, even though they wouldn't be seeing anything new, and he came out with his old clothes, belt tightened to keep the jeans on.
"I need to go home," said Jon, as they walked through the mall.
"Let's keep shopping for a while," said Emily. "Your pants are drying and you don't look too different. People aren't going to stop and think about your hips and waist."
"They don't have to stop and think if they already know."
