"It's not me that isn't real, Liz, and it's not Karyn. It's you! I thought the story of wishing me from California to Illinois was suspicious, given the range of the stone. That's not what happened at all. Sarah heard me and Karyn talking at school. She convinced her flunky, Bobby, to break in and steal the stone. I heard noises and I got up. Bobby heard me coming and wished that someone else would get caught stealing the stone instead of him. And the stone created you to steal it instead. Sarah didn't come here because she was curious--she came here because Bobby phoned her and she decided to come here. It's a good thing she never got a chance to try anything.
"Now, I wish you'd understand this. And while we're at it, I wish that when you made everyone want me to be Jennifer, that's because there was a mind-altering mist in the air making them think so, but the mist should settle and become harmless just about now."
"No!" said Liz.
"Yes!" said Jon. "All your memories, your life, your photograph, everything, are fake. If you went back to California, you wouldn't find what you remembered--not even as a fake, since it's out of the stone's range."
Liz began to cry.
"What do we do?" asked Karyn. "She doesn't really exist. I can't even blame her for what she tried to do. She's less than an hour old... we have to forgive her a bit."
"Don't... don't get rid of me!" exclaimed Liz. "I'm alive, I'm human, even if I'm just here because of magic...."
"I don't know," said Jon. "But you're right, Karyn. We have to do something. We don't need to get rid of Liz. We can say she just got in from out of town and use the stone so people will believe us. Or we could change reality just a bit, so she fits in."
"Would you really do that?" asked Liz. "After what I did? And can I see Jennifer again?"
"Don't you get it?" asked Jon. "Jennifer doesn't exist."
"Yeah, I know... But she's my friend. Look, I'm sorry about all this, Jon."
Jon said "All right. I'm going to do it now, Liz." Stone in his hands, he made his wish. "I wish that Liz...."
