While Officer Williams was looking around the house, someone was parking in my driveway. It was Sarah McMillan. She had been out of town most of the night and had just come back. She noticed the police car, with its lights on, in front of my house, so she decided to stop by to see what was up. She even thought that I might have been arrested, or hoped that I was.
After the cop left, Liz was about to make a wish. Then the doorbell rang.
"What is going on here?" Liz said. "Why do people keep on interrupting?" But I was relieved. Every delay means another way to potentially get out of this situation.
My mom went to answer the door, again, and was greeted by a smiling Sarah.
I couldn't see who was at the door from my position, so I didn't know who was there. But I heard someone come in and footsteps walking down the hallway.
Ever have a moment when you expect the best, then it turns out being the worst? Well, that was like this. My heart literally sank when I saw Sarah standing in my house. In MY house.
"Uh, what's going on here?" Sarah's smile changed to a confused frown.
"They're trying to make me into a girl. I can't believe I'm telling you this, but please help me," I pleaded.
"A girl?"
"That's right. Don't you think Jon would be better off as a cute teen girl?" asked my mom.
"What?! What are you talking about?"
This was different. Apparently Sarah hadn't been affected by Liz's wish. I didn't know it then, but when Liz wished "everyone else", the stone doesn't change the whole world, just people within the vicinty. And since Sarah was outside of the town when Liz made the wish ...
I couldn't believe it. Sarah, who had always been such a bitch to me, was my only hope. How's that for irony.
