As the rest of the afternoon passed, Jon acted less and less masculine. When it came time to close the shop, Shane asked Jon to stay after everyone else left.
"Jon. I would like to style your hair like this, may I?" Shane asked, showing Jon a picture from one of the styling books. The hair style, while short, was very feminine, as was the model modeling it.
Jon wanted to year out "No!", but meekly answered, "If you want to." His voice still sounding very much like Casey's.
"Oh, I do want to. I would like to pierce your ears as well, may I?"
Once more Jon wanted to year out "No!", but meekly answered, "If you want to."
Shane directed Jon to her chair and quickly began trimming and styling his hair.
"Jon, you like working here, don't you?" Shane said, as she worked on his hair.
"Yes, I do." Jon said.
"Do you know that many of my customers are not comfortable with a boy doing shampooing their hair, don't you?"
Jon hadn't really given it much thought. "I hadn't noticed."
"It I true." Shane said. "I have a favor to ask of you."
"Anything." Jon responded.
"While working for me, could you pretend to be a teenage girl, say you sister, Jennifer?"
"I don't have a sister." Jon said, hoping to somehow prevent what he knew was about to happened.
"I know that. But my customers do not need to know that." Shane said. "while I finish your hair, I'd like you to think about how teenage girls in your class act. I want you to compare how they act with how Jon acted. Where you see a difference, I want you to think how best to act more like the teenage girls. Can you do that for me?"
"Yes." Jon responded, accepting defeat.
Jon then began to think about the girls his age he noticed at school. What Jon was not aware of was that Jon only knew (blank) type girls.
You get to fill in the blank with....
