Mike Callaway, the star pitcher on the school's baseball team, walked into Barbi's Boutique to pick up his mom and sister. Both had suddenly developed a yen for an updo the night before, and his mom "asked" him to pick them both up after baseball practice. So, whatever. It meant he'd gotten to use the car today. That meant he'd been able to eat lunch off-campus, which was always a treat.

Mike, like most of the school's baseball team, was a bit of a jock. However, even though they'd made it to State finals two years running, and the football team was constantly mired in last place, it was the football team that got all the glory, all the breaks, and frankly, all the free help with their classes. Unfair as this was in a way, it also meant that the boys on the baseball team weren't possessed of their own importance. They worked hard, they studied, they secretly hoped to get noticed by a scout, and they were basically good kids.

Mike walked into the salon and saw both his mother and his sister just being seated. Great, he thought. I'm gonna be here for a while. He turned to the magazine rack, hoping to find something, anything more interesting than Cosmo.

And then he saw her. This incredibly gorgeous girl was working the counter, fielding calls and painting her nails. Her name tag said, "Judy." Odd name for a girl my age, Mike thought. He didn't really care, though. He was a teenage boy.

Although not imbued with superhuman levels of confidence, Mike had just enough to walk up to the counter and say, "Hi. Um."

The girl -- Judy -- smiled and blushed. "Hi," she said with a smile. "Here to get your hair done?"

She's got a sense of humor, too, he thought. He tried to be equally witty. "No. I'm Mike," he said. Smooth, genius.

Judy smiled even bigger. Mike felt his heart in his throat. "I'm Judy," she responded with a half-curtsy.

"I guessed," Mike blurted out, pointing at her name tag. Before he could apologize, Judy laughed, a sound like soft bells. "You caught me," she said, tucking a stray wisp of hair behind her ears. He was unaware that he was smiling even bigger than she was.

Cut to the chase, moron. "Um, look, would you like to go see a movie Friday night?"

Judy's smile impossibly got bigger. "Absolutely," she beamed.

Shane saw Jon/Judy flirting with Mrs. Callaway's son, and the boy flirting back. Remarkable, she thought. She really is convincing everyone that she's Judy. She made a mental note to talk to the girl after closing, not really aware that she'd just thought of Jon as. she.
